The Metzeler Lasertec tire was the go to tire for vintage BMW motorcycles for general performance and mileage. Discontinuing the Lasertec in classic sizes Metzeler started to offer the Roadtec 01 to fit the needs of vintage bikes which isn’t a bad thing at all since the Roadtec 01 is an improvement over the Lasertec. After installing some of the Roadtec 01’s on our customers bikes we finally put a set aside for the shops 73’ BMW R 75/5.
The Roadtec 01 tire offers a new tread pattern designed for a safer ride on wet and low friction surfaces that also improves mileage and performance consistency which will make a huge difference compared to the beefier tires we are replacing.
Here are a few notable Roadtec 01 Specs:
Improved compound solution that enhances the chemical grip and adhesive properties in all different situations.
The innovative profiles generate a short and wide footprint area that reduces compound consumption and increases wear regularity.
The structure underneath each size of the ROADTEC™ 01 range is tuned in construction and material according with the specific need of each fitment.
While we had the back wheel off it seemed like a good time to put a fresh set of Ikon shocks and springs. For more info on these see our post on suspension upgrades for vintage Airheads.
